Welcome to this tutorial on how to get emotes on a Discord server! Emotes, also known as emojis or emoticons, add fun and expression to your server’s chat. In this guide, we will explore the different ways you can obtain and use emotes on your Discord server.

Using Built-in Emotes

Discord provides a collection of built-in emotes that you can use on any server. To access these emotes, simply type “:” followed by the name of the emote. For example, typing “” will display a smiling face emote.

You can also view and select emotes from the emoji picker by clicking on the smiley face icon located in the chat input box. This will open up a window where you can browse through various categories of emotes and select the one you want to use.

Adding Custom Emotes

If you want to have unique and personalized emotes for your server, you can add custom emotes. To do this:

  1. Create Emote Images: First, create or find images that represent the custom emotes you want to add. These images should be in PNG format and have a maximum size of 256KB.
  2. Upload Emote Images: Go to your Discord server settings by clicking on the server name at the top-left corner of your screen. Then, navigate to “Server Settings” > “Emoji”.

Click on “Upload Emoji” and select the image files you created earlier.

  3. Name Your Emotes: After uploading an image, give your custom emote a unique name without any spaces or special characters. This name will be used to call the custom emote in chat.
  4. Using Custom Emotes: To use custom emotes in chat, simply type “:” followed by the name of the emote you uploaded. For example, if you uploaded an emote with the name “party”, you can use it by typing “” in your message.

Managing Server Emotes

As a server owner or administrator, you can manage the available emotes on your server. To do this:

  1. Server Emote Settings: Go to your server settings and navigate to “Server Settings” > “Emoji”. Here, you can view all the available emotes on your server and their names.
  2. Edit or Remove Emotes: To edit or remove an existing emote, click on the corresponding icon next to the emote’s name. You can change its name or delete it entirely.
  3. Add More Emotes: If you want to add more custom emotes, follow the steps mentioned earlier in the “Adding Custom Emotes” section.

Emote Permissions

You can also control who can use specific emotes on your server. By default, all members have access to all available emotes. However, if you want to restrict certain emotes to specific roles or users:

  1. Create Roles: Go to your server settings and navigate to “Server Settings” > “Roles”. Create roles that represent different user groups or permissions.
  2. Edit Emote Permissions: In the same “Roles” settings page, click on a role’s name and scroll down to find the “Emojis” section.

Here, you can enable or disable the use of specific emotes for that role.

  3. Apply Roles to Users: Assign the created roles to users by going to their user profile and clicking on the “Roles” tab. From there, you can select the appropriate roles for each user.

With these steps, you are now equipped with the knowledge to get emotes on your Discord server. Whether it’s using built-in emotes or adding custom ones, emotes enhance the communication experience and add personality to your server. Have fun expressing yourself!
