How Do I Join a Discord VC Server?

Heather Bennett

If you’re new to Discord and want to join a voice chat (VC) server, you’ve come to the right place! Joining a VC server in Discord is quick and easy. Let’s walk through the steps together.

Step 1: Open Discord

To get started, open the Discord application on your computer or launch it from your web browser. Make sure you’re logged in to your Discord account.

Step 2: Navigate to the Server

In the left-hand sidebar, locate the server you want to join a voice chat on. Click on the server name to select it.

Step 3: Access Voice Channels

Once you’ve selected the server, look for the “Voice Channels” section. It’s usually located at the top of the right-hand side panel. Voice channels are represented by speaker icons next to their names.

Step 4: Choose a Voice Channel

Browse through the available voice channels and find one that suits your needs or interests. Click on its name or icon to join that specific voice channel.

Pro Tip:

If a voice channel has a lock icon next to it, it means that it’s private and requires special permissions or an invitation from someone who has access.

Step 5: Joining a Voice Chat

Once you click on a voice channel, a prompt will appear asking for confirmation to join that channel’s voice chat. Click “Join” to proceed.

  • Note:
    • If this is your first time joining a voice chat, Discord may request access permission for your microphone. Make sure to grant the necessary permissions to enjoy a seamless voice chat experience.
    • If you’re using Discord in a web browser, you may need to allow microphone access from your browser settings as well.

Step 6: Communicating in Voice Chat

Once you’ve successfully joined a voice chat, you can start communicating with other members in the channel. Simply speak into your microphone, and others will be able to hear you.

Additional Tips:

  • Muting and Unmuting: To mute or unmute yourself during a voice chat, click on the microphone icon located at the bottom left corner of the Discord application window.
  • Adjusting Volume: If someone is too loud or too quiet, you can adjust their volume individually by right-clicking on their username within the voice chat and selecting “Adjust Volume.”
  • Headphone Mode: To improve audio quality during voice chats, consider enabling “Headphone Mode” in Discord’s Voice & Video settings. This setting is particularly useful if you’re using speakers instead of headphones.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully joined a voice chat server in Discord. Now you can engage in conversations, coordinate with your friends, or simply enjoy some quality time with fellow community members.

We hope this guide has been helpful to you. Happy chatting!
