Discord is a popular platform for creating and managing servers for communities of all kinds. Sometimes, however, you may find yourself needing to delete a Discord server. Whether it’s due to inactivity, a change in focus, or any other reason, deleting a server is a straightforward process that can be done in just a few steps.
Before you delete your Discord server
Before you proceed with deleting your Discord server, it’s important to understand that this action is permanent. Once a server is deleted, all its data, channels, roles, and members will be irreversibly removed. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure that you have made any necessary backups or have communicated the decision with your community members.
Step 1: Open the Server Settings
To delete your Discord server, start by opening the Discord application on your desktop or mobile device. Once logged in:
- Desktop: Click on the name of the server located at the top-left corner of the screen to open the drop-down menu. From there, select “Server Settings.
- Mobile: Tap on the three horizontal lines (also known as the hamburger menu) located at the top-left corner of the screen. Scroll down and tap on “Server Settings. “
Step 2: Navigate to Server Deletion
In the Server Settings menu, navigate to the left sidebar and locate “Overview.” Underneath this section, you will find “Delete Server” with a trash can icon next to it.
Step 3: Confirm Server Deletion
Clicking on “Delete Server” will prompt Discord to ask for confirmation before proceeding with deletion. This step is essential to prevent accidental deletions. Take a moment to reflect on your decision and ensure that deleting the server is indeed what you want.
If you are certain about deleting the server, Discord will require you to enter your server’s name to confirm the deletion. This additional step ensures that only authorized individuals can delete a server.
Step 4: Delete the Server
Finally, after confirming the server deletion by typing its name, click on “Delete Server” once more to complete the process. Discord will then initiate the deletion process, removing all data associated with the server from their servers.
It’s important to note that it may take some time for Discord to fully delete your server from their systems. During this period, members might still be able to see remnants of the deleted server until it is entirely removed.
Deleting a Discord server is a simple process but should be approached with caution due to its irreversible nature. It’s always recommended to communicate any changes or decisions with your community members beforehand and make any necessary backups of important data. Remember, once you delete a server, there is no way to recover it.
