How Do I Ban Someone From Discord Server?

If you are an admin or a moderator of a Discord server, you may come across situations where you need to ban someone from the server. Banning someone not only restricts their access to the server but also prevents them from sending messages or participating in any activities within the server. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to ban someone from your Discord server.

Step 1: Open Discord

To get started, open the Discord application on your desktop or access it through your web browser. Log in to your account if prompted.

Step 2: Select the Server

Once you are logged in, navigate to the left sidebar and click on the server where you want to ban someone.

Step 3: Access Server Settings

In the top-right corner of your screen, click on the down arrow next to the server name. This will open a drop-down menu.

From the menu, select “Server Settings. “

Step 4: Go to “Bans”

In the left sidebar of the Server Settings window, click on “Bans.” This will display a list of banned users on your server.

Step 5: Add Ban

To ban a user from your server, click on the “Add Ban” button located at the top-right corner of the Bans page.

Note:

  • You need appropriate permissions (admin or moderator) to access and use these settings.
  • Banning a user is irreversible unless manually unbanned.

Step 6: Enter User Information

A pop-up window will appear where you can enter the user’s information. You can ban a user by their username or mention them. Discord will auto-complete the username as you type, making it convenient to select the correct user.

Note:

If you are unsure about the exact username or mention, copy and paste it from a previous message or ask another admin/moderator for assistance.

Step 7: Choose Ban Reason (Optional)

Below the user information fields, there is an optional field to enter a reason for the ban. Providing a reason can help other moderators/admins understand why the ban was issued.

Step 8: Confirm and Apply Ban

After entering the user information and optional reason, click on the “Ban” button to confirm and apply the ban. The banned user will no longer have access to your server.

Note:

  • If you need to unban a user in the future, you can do so by going back to the Bans page and clicking on the “Revoke Ban” button next to their name.
  • Banned users will not be notified when they are banned from your server, but they will see that they are unable to access it.

Congratulations! You have successfully learned how to ban someone from your Discord server. Remember that banning should be used judiciously and only when necessary for maintaining a positive and safe community environment.
