How Do I Add Emotes to Discord Server on Mobile?

Scott Campbell

Discord is a popular communication platform used by gamers and communities to chat, share media, and connect with others. One of the features that make Discord so enjoyable is the ability to use emotes.

Emotes are small images or animations that can express emotions, reactions, or represent specific actions. Adding emotes to your Discord server on mobile is a straightforward process that can be done in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Open Discord

If you haven’t already, start by opening the Discord app on your mobile device. The app icon usually features the Discord logo, which resembles a white game controller on a purple background.

Step 2: Navigate to Your Server

Tap on the three horizontal lines located in the top-left corner of your screen. This will open the side menu. From there, scroll down and tap on the name of the server where you want to add emotes.

Step 3: Access Server Settings

Towards the bottom, you will see a section labeled “User Settings.” Tap on it to open additional options.

If you have administrative privileges for the server, you will see an additional option labeled “Server Settings.” If not, ask someone with administrative rights to assist you with adding emotes.

Step 4: Choose Emoji

Select “Server Settings.”

  • If you’re using Android,
    • Navigate to “Emoji”.
    • Tap on the emoji icon located at the top of your screen.
  • If you’re using iOS (iPhone or iPad),
    • Scroll down and tap on “Emoji.”

Step 5: Add Emote

Towards the top-right corner, you will see a button labeled “Upload Emoji.” Tap on it to proceed.

Step 6: Select Emote File

A file manager will open, allowing you to choose the image or animation file for your emote. You can either browse through your device’s storage or use a cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox to locate the file. Once you’ve found the desired emote, tap on it to select it.

The file must meet Discord’s requirements for emotes, including size and format limitations. Make sure to check Discord’s guidelines before uploading an emote.

Step 7: Assign a Name

Type in a name for your emote. This name will be used to trigger the emote in chat. Choose something memorable and relevant to make it easier for users to utilize the emote during conversations.

Step 8: Confirm and Save Emote

Tapping on “Save”, located towards the bottom-right corner of your screen, will finalize the addition of your new emote to the server.

The time it takes for the emote to be usable can vary, but usually, it’s a matter of seconds. If you encounter any issues or errors during the process, double-check your file’s size and format, as well as your internet connection.

That’s it! You’ve successfully added an emote to your Discord server on mobile.

Now you and your server members can express yourselves in a fun and unique way. Remember to respect Discord’s guidelines and policies when using emotes to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Happy chatting!
